An important Alba Berlin player has suffered a serious thumb injury. The top scorer will be missing from his team in three important competitions.

Alba Berlin has suffered a bitter setback. The German basketball champion will have to be without his playmaker Martin Hermansson for around six weeks.

The 31-year-old Icelander injured his thumb in the Champions League game against Greek club Karditsa Iaponiki. According to the club, an examination at the Berlin accident hospital revealed a more serious ligament injury.

Hermansson will be missing from his team at a crucial stage of the season. The failure affects the Champions League, the Cup Final Four and the fight for the playoff places in the Basketball Bundesliga.

In the league, the development player, along with Jack Kayil, is the team’s most successful point collector. The Icelander had already injured his knee in November.
