While Korea’s badminton star Ahn Se-young began full-scale preparations for two major international competitions in February and March, the Chinese media pointed out the condition of her knees, which was recently discovered, and pointed out whether she can manage her condition as a key point to watch.
According to the Chinese media ‘Sports Bongwoon’ on the 2nd, Ahn Se-young is focusing on training with the goal of the Asian Men’s and Women’s Team Badminton Championships to be held in Qingdao, China in early February and the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour All England Open (Super 1000) in March.
On the 30th of last month, the Korea Badminton Association announced the news of the national team players, including Ahn Se-young, entering the Jincheon Athletes’ Village through its official SNS, and also released a video of training scenes requested by fans.
However, the Chinese media’s attention was focused not only on the training scenes but also on Ahn Se-young’s physical condition. On January 29, Ahn Se-young posted a certified photo of a coffee truck gifted by fans on her personal SNS, and in this photo, a thick bandage and icing were captured on her right knee. As he has suffered from a knee injury in the past, the Chinese media evaluated it as “a time when management is necessary in a forced march.”
At the time, Ahn Se-young only thanked her fans through social media, but did not mention the injury. In the athletes’ village training video released later, it was confirmed that the bandage was removed and the athlete was training normally.
Regarding the scene in which she handles a fast-flying shuttlecock without any problems, the Chinese media analyzed that there appears to be no major problem with her skills, quoting the nickname ‘Queen Ahn Se-young’ given by fans.
Chinese media also emphasized that Ahn Se-young has been completing a high-intensity schedule from the beginning of the season by winning the Malaysia Open and India Open in succession. In addition, he said, “There may be physical ups and downs due to frequent participation in competitions, but the choice to skip the German Open and use the Asian Team Championships as the final test before the All England Open was a very calculated move.”
