Zorro: Goals, Rivalry & Romance

The attacker Matías Cóccaro will be a player of Newell’s and will soon be available to the duo Favio Orsi and Sergio Gómez. He is the sixth leper reinforcement and has a very special story with his lifelong red and black rival.

It must be remembered that Zorro (such as Cóccaro’s nickname) played with the Huracán shirt in five games against Central, where he won three and lost twice. But he scored three goals against Canalla that always helped them win and on one occasion he had a very spicy exchange with Gaspar Servio, the then Auriazul goalkeeper.

On December 11, 2021, Hurácan defeated Canalla 4 to 1 at the Gigante de Arroyito, with a double from Zorro.

Then, on May 2, 2022 at the Tomás Adolfo Ducó, Globo won 2-1 with a goal from Cóccaro, from a penalty, (another from Franco Cristaldo) and Central’s goal was the work of Alejo Veliz, the forward who is once again in the Arroyito club.

Cóccaro, face to face with Servio

But the most spicy thing happened on June 10, 2022, when Huracán won 2-0 at Parque Patricios, with arbitration by Germán Delfino. On that occasion Cóccaro did not score goals, but he was one of the exclusive protagonists of the night of Buenos Aires football.

The thing is that Zorro starred in a very sharp cross with Gaspar Servio, the Auriazul goalkeeper at the time. That defeat of Leandro Somoza’s Central against Huracán left a controversy due to the fight between Gaspar Servio and the Quemero player Matías Coccaro.

After crossing face to face several times on the playing field, statements from both came in the locker room. “I’m excited about the result, if Cóccaro was handsome it would have turned out the way we arranged. People got in the way,” Servio shot after the match.

And he went for more: “He’s a hustler, we all know each other. He’s a jerk. I know where he lives, I know his friends. Rest assured, we’re going to meet.”

Cóccaro also spoke about it, but he did so without getting into controversy: “These are things about the game and everything was there. There is always some discussion. I haven’t spoken to him yet, I will send him a message later,” said the then Huracán player without any intention of adding fuel to the fire.

Newell’s sixth reinforcement

Now Cóccaro will wear the Newell’s shirt and will be the sixth reinforcement of the red and black recess, which this weekend will sign his contract with the Park entity.

Newell’s finally won the fight against Huracán, offering him a contract probably for several years and the purchase of a part of the pass. In this way, the Orsi-Gómez duo will have another attacker to reinforce the team.

Cóccaro will arrive free after playing for Montreal, in the MLS, and later for Atlas in Mexico. The center forward had been left with the pass in his possession and began negotiations with Huracán but, when it seemed that the forward was going to return to the Parque Patricios club, he finally chose to move to another park: Independencia.

Last Wednesday, Newell’s announced the incorporation of attacker Michael Hoyos on a free basis, until December 2026 and with the possibility of extending it for another year.

And that same day the arrivals of winger Franco García, defender Nicolás Goitea and attacker Walter Núñez were made official.

And the first to be announced had been the goalkeeper from Racing: Gabriel Arias.

It was not withdrawn from the market

La Lepra did not withdraw from the market and the leadership, with sports director Roberto Sensini, continues to make efforts for some more reinforcements.

It must be remembered that Newell’s will debut in the Apertura tournament of the Professional League next Friday, January 23, at 10:15 p.m., visiting Talleres at the Mario Kempes in Córdoba.
