After KRC Genk and KV Mechelen, 1st national team KFC Dessel Sport also requires helmets for youth goalkeepers. All goalkeepers from U10 to U15 will have to wear the helmet. In this way, the club hopes to prevent brain damage. “A number of elite clubs are already using it and we would like to follow them in this,” says youth chairman Ben Staes. Yet experts warn against a false sense of security.
