This is my first contribution in 2026. This year as well, I will be using this column to share my thoughts on the appeal and value of judo and sports, so please bear with me. Thank you for your support.

Well, I’m currently in the midst of preparations for the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, which will begin on February 6th. This is the first Olympics since I became the head of the JOC Strengthening Headquarters.

The Japanese representative “TEAM JAPAN” has set its goal for this tournament as “the highest level of results ever.” However, I would like all the players to pursue their individual goals, believe in their own abilities, believe in the team, and deliver their best performance to their satisfaction.

In addition to the results, I also hope that they will grasp something that can be used for their own growth through participating in the tournament, and that they will be able to use this for their future endeavors. I would also like to go there, compete together as a member of “TEAM JAPAN,” and make the Games more exciting with my fellow Olympians from all over the world.

The Aichi/Nagoya Asian Games will be held in the fall. Please come to the venue!

A big event will be held in Japan this year. The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games will be held from September 19th to October 4th.

For example, at the Aichi/Nagoya Games, there will be E-Sports, Sepak Takraw, Cricket, Wushu Tai Chi, and Combat Sports (Jiu-Jitsu, Clash, and Mixed Martial Arts). These are all competitions that give you a sense of the history and culture of the Asian region, and I think there are many people who don’t have the opportunity to experience them on a regular basis, so please take a look.

Also, since it is being held in Japan, I would like you to visit the venue and watch the game live if possible. I believe that the experience of seeing and interacting with the “real thing” in person is irreplaceable. I especially want the children and young people who will be responsible for the next generation to get a sense of something by watching the athletes’ performances live.

I believe that sports have diverse values and have the power to overcome various differences and promote mutual understanding. In 2026, we will continue to work together with athletes around the world to communicate and share the appeal of sports.
