Why Can’t I Get Married? – Reasons & Advice

By Elsa Girard-Basset | Web journalist

At 78 years old, Francis Huster continues to multiply projects and outspoken speaking engagements. Behind the image of the tireless actor, however, hides a man marked by lasting emotional wounds. Thwarted loves, persistent regrets and assumed life choices: the actor today agrees to look at his past with lucidity. Even if it means revealing what made him suffer the most.

An essential figure in French theater and cinema, Francis Huster has never slowed down, even after several decades of career. An emblematic resident of the Comédie-Française, author, director and prolific actor, he devoted most of his life to his profession. But on a personal level, this absolute dedication was not without consequences, as he recently recognized when looking back on his most memorable love stories.

Among them, the one experienced with Isabelle Adjani remains a particularly painful memory. Both residents at the Comédie-Française in the 1970s, they shared an intense relationship that Francis Huster never completely forgot. In the columns of VSD, the actor frankly confided:

“I only blame myself, when I was in love with Isabelle Adjani and we played together at the Comédie-Française, for not being able to find the words to convince her to stay.”

Looking back, Francis Huster believes that his total commitment to his profession weighed heavily in the failure of his romantic relationships. Recently interviewed by Le Point, the 78-year-old actor returned to this constant in his sentimental life, without trying to water down his words:

“The women in my life all refused to marry me because of that, because marrying me meant marrying the profession… It was too hard! »

If his love life was marked by these renunciations, Francis Huster also harbored another regret: that of not having passed on his passion for theater to his daughters, Elisa and Toscane. Although very involved in their artistic awakening, the actor came up against their refusal to follow in his footsteps. Still on the Point microphone, he said with a hint of resignation:

“They don’t want my life, they never wanted it. However, I did everything I could. I took them to the Carcassonne Festival. I brought them on stage. They each had a small role. They loved it but, no, they don’t want to…”

Now separated from Cristiana Reali for almost 20 years, Francis Huster fully accepts his choices, despite the sacrifices they involved. Her daughters followed their own path, one in the visual arts, the other in the sciences, far from the boards and the spotlight. A different trajectory from that of their father, who continues, at 78, to put his passion above all else, even if it means still paying the intimate price.
