SV Werder Bremen – TSG 1899 Hoffenheim 0:2 (0:1)

In their catch-up game for the 16th matchday of the Bundesliga, TSG Hoffenheim won 2-0 (1-0) away against SV Werder Bremen. At the end of a first half with few chances, Alexander Prass gave TSG the lead in the 44th minute. Shortly after the kick-off for the second half Hoffenheim Wouter Burger received a red card after a serious foul on Puertas.

The Kraichgau team extended their lead a little later. Grischa Prömel’s goal (54th) also withstood the VAR test. Things looked different for Romano Schmid’s supposed goal (65′): the Bremen player was offside. Despite the numerical superiority, this was achieved SV Werder not a valid goal.

Coach Horst Steffen’s team hasn’t scored a goal in its last six Bundesliga games. In the table, Bremen are only just ahead of the relegation place. With its fourth win in a row, Hoffenheim can consolidate its third place in the table.

On the occasion of Holocaust Remembrance Day, fans raised their voices against fascism before the game. Banners reading “No Forgive, No Forget” could be seen in the stands. The players from both teams also held up a banner.

Originally the game, like the game between SV Werder and the TSG Hoffenheim should have taken place two and a half weeks ago. However, the heavy winter activity meant that the encounter was canceled at short notice.
