Basketball – WeCOM-Ortoetruria, splendid performance and success against Angri (87-81)
ANGRI – After the success achieved in the last match at PalaMalè against Scandone Avellino, WeCOM-Ortoetruria repeats itself in Campania, overtaking the fearsome Angri who preceded it by two points in the standings with an excellent performance.
The victory of coach Saputo’s boys was very heavy as they also overturned the difference in goals and following the concomitant defeats of Benevento, L’Aquila and Tiber rose in the standings to third place together with Avellino who will have their rest period next Sunday.
The performance of the Biancostellati was very good and, after the home team’s opening basket, they actually led the match for the entire first half, reaching a full three-possession lead on several occasions. Angri tries to recover with an acceleration in the final stages of the second half which ends with Stella Azzurra leading 46-41.
Upon returning from the long break, however, the blue and whites have a break in their play and in their goals and the Campania team overtake for the first time, which also leads them up to +6 (52-46). Saputo calls changes and designs countermeasures. A devastating run of 19-7 overturns the inertia of the match and the blue and whites end the third quarter leading 65-60. The Tuscia boys continue to play very well, operating a suffocating defense that allows Martinez (best scorer in the championship with an average of 26.1 per game and author of 43 points last Sunday) only 16 points and also takes the maximum advantage (75-66), but Angri is a team of character and quality and puts all its best characteristics into a tight final that leads them to make the second overtaking of the entire match 90″ from the end (81-80). First Bastone, then a splendid and very difficult triple by Moretti and two free throws by Bertini lead to the counter-overtaking and the well-deserved and very important victory for the Stella Azzurra for an 87-81 which means two fundamental points for the top ranking and best placement for basket difference over the Angri defeat.
The performance of all the protagonists on the field was truly excellent, excellently used in the rotations by coach Saputo’s perfect reading of the match. Absolute MVP of the match is Gioele Moretti with 24 points scored and triples with a very high difficulty coefficient, but equally well Bertini with 22 points, Visentin (double double of 12 points and 16 rebounds), Casanova and Meroi. Among the hosts, Milojevic was the best.
The interpretation of the match in the coach’s comment: “We obtained a very important victory against an opponent that has never been tamed and we were very good at not giving up in difficult moments and scoring fundamental baskets in the decisive phase of the match. We continue to work like this to grow from all points of view, because we know that there is still a lot of room for improvement that we want to achieve”.
The next match for the Biancostellati is the match on Saturday 31st at PalaMalè, at 4pm, against Sennori.
