Vietnam Wins First ASEAN Para Games Gold in Swimming

The person who achieved this exceptional feat for Vietnam at the 13th ASEAN Para Games was Vo Huynh Anh Khoa. He finished first in the 400 meter swim in the S8 category for people with disabilities, with a time of 5 minutes and 26.16 seconds.

Vietnamese swimmers also dominated in this event, with Han Quang Thoai and Dang Van Cong winning silver and bronze respectively.

Previously, Do Thanh Hai won a silver medal in the men’s 400m freestyle in the S6 category for people with disabilities. He finished second with a time of 5 minutes and 58.14 seconds.

Then swimmer Nguyen Van Hanh brilliantly won the gold medal in the men’s 100 meter breaststroke (SB11 category for people with disabilities).

On January 21, Vietnamese athletes with disabilities took part in several important sports competitions. The medal winning streak is expected to continue, especially in swimming, with experienced swimmers such as Trinh Thi Bich Nhu and Le Tien Dat joining the ranks.

In weightlifting, legend Le Van Cong will compete in the 49kg category and is expected to achieve a high result.

Athletics, fencing, badminton and table tennis also start their competitions today.

The 13th Paralympic Games, held in Nakhon Ratchasima (Thailand), include 19 sports with 536 events for people with disabilities, including: archery, athletics, badminton, 5-a-side blind football, boccia, bowling, chess, cycling, 7-a-side goalball, blind judo, weightlifting, shooting, sitting volleyball, swimming, table tennis, wheelchair basketball, wheelchair fencing and wheelchair tennis (of which 4 sports were organized under IPC supervision standards: athletics, swimming, weightlifting and cycling).

The Vietnamese Paralympic team participating in the ASEAN Para Games consists of 184 members, including: 139 athletes (including 1 supervisor); 27 coaches and 17 staff members (team leader, deputy team leader, team officials, interpreters and 4 doctors). The entire team is aiming for 40 to 50 gold medals.
