At least there are still friendly words at the entrance. “Laskawo prosymo”, Ukrainian for “Welcome,” says a sign stuck to the glass door. A relic of the welcoming culture that will probably soon be taken down in the Schlossberg emergency quarter Wiena gray apartment block with seven floors. Two men are still shoveling the snow out of the driveway, the heavy glass doors are still opening, Christmas decorations are still flashing here and there in the windows. The yellow and blue Volkshilfe poster, in the colors of the Ukrainian national flag: “Ukraine Aid” still hangs on the door.
