The malaise at Feyenoord has taken on dangerous proportions in recent weeks and months, but Robin van Persie has no intention of throwing in the towel. At the press conference after the disaster against Sparta (3-4) tells the combative trainer that he is not thinking about resigning.

“That question doesn’t occur to me at all,” Van Persie even responds. He explains why.

“I have seen that film, in which you are praised and criticized, so many times over the years. That does not mean anything to me personally,” the experienced trainer says that he is not open to criticism.

“What does affect me,” Van Persie continues, “is how things are going with the club, that we lose. That’s what I focus on.”

“I won’t throw in the towel myself,” he assures. “This is my club, in good times and in bad. I think that also applies to our supporters.”

“You are a supporter in good and bad times and that is what I have to radiate now. We have to be there for each other and get through it together.”

“I know plenty of examples of trainers who are kicked out after thirty matches, but also plenty of trainers who are given time. My only intention is to get through this together, my only interest is that things go well for Feyenoord again,” Van Persie concludes.
