In the 22nd round of the Premier League, Manchester United’s football players beat their city rival 2-0 at home and after three draws in a row, they scored three points. The Red Devils were the more active team for most of the game, which resulted in Bryan Mbeum’s (26) leading goal in the 65th minute. United’s great performance was confirmed eleven minutes later by Patrick Dorgu (21). Coach Michael Carrick started his tenure on the bench of the Red Devils in the best possible way. Manchester City, on the other hand, lost for the fourth time in a row in the fight for the title.
The home team entered the match much better, kicking a corner kick at the end of the second minute. Harry Maguire pounced on him at the back post and hit the crossbar from close range.
A few minutes later, the visitors’ defense made a mistake again, but the nascent chance of United was destroyed by a timely run by Gianluigi Donnarumma. In the 22nd minute, Michael Carrick’s men threatened again, but Patrick Dorgu’s bouncing shot was again pushed out by the Italian goalkeeper.
At the beginning of the third ten-minute period, Old Trafford even erupted in cheers, but it only lasted a moment – Amado Diallo’s goal joy was ruined by offside. A passage of the match followed, when the guests also made themselves known, but Senne Lammens handled Max Alleyne’s header. Moments later, Antoine Semenyo also failed, heading just wide of the goal.
Moments before the half-time break, the Red Devils fans rejoiced again, but even Bruno Fernandes’ goal shot was ruled out for offside.
The calm start of the second half was disrupted in the 57th minute by United’s successful action, when Donnarumma shone again. The lanky goalkeeper first stopped Diallo’s fierce shot and just a few moments later made a great save against Casemir as well.
The home side’s slight advantage resulted in the lead in the 65th minute when the Red Devils went on a quick counter-attack, Fernandes found Bryan Mbeum with a precise pass and he curled a cross into the net behind Donnarumma.
Ten minutes later, the home team took a two-goal lead when substitute Matheus Cunha managed to get in front of the defending player and then found Patrick Dorgu in the box, who sent the ball from the first right to the post.
And it could have been even worse with Pep Guardiola’s men. In the 90th minute, Diallo made his way into a great chance, but his shot only hit the post. What Diallo couldn’t do, Mason Mount could fix in the second minute of regulation, who benefited from another accurate pass by Cunha. But for the third time in the match, VAR ruled against United. However, it did not change anything about the final result and the joy of the home fans.
