Unicaja Mijas became strong at the Martín Urbano to score a prestigious victory against Domusa Teknik ISB (83-66), in a match marked by defensive intensity and a decisive third quarter. After a very successful start from the triple, the team from Malaga knew how to manage the moments of difficulty and definitively broke the match after the break to impose their law against an opponent who arrived in a great moment of form. Elena Moreno was the best of the locals. The captain activated the all-terrain mode and added 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for 24 rating credits. Sofía Galerón and María Roters were the scoring references with 14 and 15 goals respectively.
Unicaja Mijas came out unleashed from the perimeter. María Roters opened fire from the triple, Tayra Eke took over and Roters herself repeated to set the pace for an electric start. Inés Araújo responded for Domusa Teknik ISB, but the Malaga gale did not stop and, in just six minutes, Javi Pérez de los Reyes’ team already doubled their rival on the scoreboard (20-10, min. 6). The visitors reacted and managed to get closer to 24-18, although three points from Estel Puiggros from the free throw made it 27-18 at the end of the first quarter.
In the second period, the high physical level of Domusa Teknik ISB slowed down the local offensive rhythm and imposed a more static game that made Unicaja Mijas uncomfortable in transition. With Martín Urbano’s score at 30-22, Javi Pérez de los Reyes requested a timeout. The answer came with a three-pointer from the corner by captain Elena Moreno, although the Basques knew how to resist and score at the possession horn to close the gap (35-30, min. 16). A triple by Laupepe brought the visitors even closer (39-35) and forced a new stoppage for the Malaga coach. The advantage remained stable until halftime, which was reached at 43-37.
After passing through the locker room, Domusa Teknik ISB was within one possession with a triple from Laupepe (43-40), but Unicaja Mijas responded with its best version. The local defense prevailed and Sofía Galerón finished the quarter with two consecutive triples, to which was added a basket under the basket by Tayra Eke to recover an advantage of more than ten points (55-44, min. 24). The power forward extended the streak with five more points that stretched the lead to 62-46. A final visitor push made up the score before the end of the third quarter, 64-51.
The last period began with a new reaction attempt by Domusa Teknik ISB, which cut it to 65-55. However, between Elena Moreno and María Roters they restored tranquility to the locals (70-56). Asier Larrañaga’s team once again got below the psychological barrier of ten points (70-61, min. 34), which led Javi Pérez de los Reyes to stop the match again. From there, Unicaja Mijas completely dried up their rival, controlled the rebound and found offensive fluidity to close the match with a resounding 83-66.
