HOLY SUNDAY. Liz Jeuri Acosta, from wrestling, and Yaneirys Rodríguez, from volleyball, were awarded the Athlete of the Year award at the ceremony held by the Sports Union of the Monseñor Nouel province (UDEMON) in the Fine Arts auditorium of that city.
The 2025 Sports Merit award ceremony, by Monseñor Nouel, also chose the Judo Association of that province as the most outstanding, as well as the president of the Dominican Rowing and Canoeing Federation, Víctor Tejeda as leader of the year, while Ramón Egalite, from volleyball, as the most outstanding coach, and the Major League baseball player Teoscar Hernández received international recognition.
In addition, UDEMON recognized the Mineros de Bonao team, champion of the 2025 Professional Baseball Summer League, for its outstanding performance.
The ceremony marked the official return of the Provincial Sports Gala, after 13 years without being held, becoming a milestone for the reactivation and strengthening of the sports movement in the Monseñor Nouel province.
Roberto Gerez, president of UDEMON, along with the other members of the executive committee of the sports entity, highlighted the importance of rescuing this tradition as a permanent policy of recognition of sporting merit, as well as the value of joint work between associations, federations, authorities and the community.
“It has been a joint effort to highlight the work of the athletes of our province. A special thank you to the authorities and businessmen who have made it possible to carry out this award,” said Gerez.
Other recognitions
As part of the awards program, UDEMON directors presented scrolls of recognition to various personalities.
Among those honored were the journalist Jesús Leonardo Reyes, for his career and dissemination of amateur sports, as well as Dr. Eberto Núñez, mayor of Bonao; to Mr. Willy Antonio Céspedes, director of the Jayaco City Council, and Mr. Luis Castillo, president of the Cerimas company, for their constant and selfless support of the sport.
Among the special guests were William Hernández, president of the Federation of Sports Unions; Gilberto García, president of the Dominican Judo Federation; Alexis Peguero, president of the Dominican Athletics Federation, Santa Milagros, deputy prosecutor of the Judicial District of the Monseñor Nouel Province; Fernando Tiburcio, president of the Sports Union of the Hermanas Mirabal province; Francisco Peguero, president of the La Vega Sports Union; Enmanuel García Musa, treasurer of Fedojudo.
The 2025 Sports Merit Ceremony of the Monsignor Nouel province presented statuettes to each of the athletes who shone in sports such as chess, soccer, karate, rugby, Olympic wrestling, boxing, field tennis, dominoes, athletics, judo, baseball, volleyball, rowing, canoeing, basketball, golf, softball, taekwondo and wushu, valuing performance in provincial, regional, national and international events.
