Foot Africa magazine, which specializes in African football, revealed a list of the ten highest-paid coaches on the continent, showing a striking disparity in the salaries of coaches supervising national teams, according to the financial capabilities and sports stakes of each federation.
Vladimir Petkovic, coach of the Algerian national team, topped the list, with a monthly salary of approximately 135,000 euros, an indication of the Algerian Federation’s tendency to invest in European expertise in an effort to achieve results at the continental and international levels.
The Belgian Hugo Bross, coach of the South African national team, and Emers Faye, coach of Côte d’Ivoire, came in second place, with an equal salary of 75 thousand euros per month for each of them, which reflects the dependence of some African federations on coaches with international experience despite the high cost.
Moroccan coach Walid Regragui ranked highly, with a salary of about 70,000 euros per month, benefiting from his position after the Moroccan national team’s historic achievement in the World Cup, to be classified among the elite of the highest-paid coaches on the continent.
At a recent level, the names of Eric Schall, coach of the Nigerian national team, and Sebastien Desabre, coach of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, were mentioned, with salaries approaching 50 thousand euros per month, in what was considered a relative balance between sporting ambition and financial capabilities.
The list also included James Kwasi Appiah, the coach of the Sudanese national team, with a salary of approximately 48 thousand euros per month, while Hossam Hassan, the coach of the Egyptian national team, came with a salary estimated at approximately 30 thousand euros per month, which is a lower number compared to the weight of Egyptian football on the continental level.
At the bottom of the ranking was Gernot Rohr, the coach of the Benin national team, with a salary of approximately 25 thousand euros per month, and Tom Saintveit, the coach of the Mali national team, with a salary of approximately 20 thousand euros per month, which reflects the limited financial resources of some African federations compared to others.
