John Textor and Thairo Arruda broke off relations for good. The American businessman even fired the CEO of Botafogo’s SAF, but ran into the same injunction from the Rio de Janeiro Court that keeps him in charge of the club, as the decision prevents changes in the administrative management of SAF.
In contact with GLOBO after the publication of the report, Textor assured that Thairo Arruda would remain at SAF.
“Thairo is safe. He’s my little brother and I love him. He’s not going anywhere,” said the American businessman, who also published a photo with the CEO.
The reason for the split between the parties began with Thairo Arruda’s refusal to sign the contract that would sign the loan of US$50 million (approximately R$267 million) desired by Textor to get Botafogo out of the transfer ban. The black-and-white CEO is against the terms of the contract, which provides for interest that can double the amount that would be received in four months and has the sale of players as a guarantee of payment.
Furthermore, Textor and Thairo disagreed over the sale of Danilo and Montoro to Nottingham Forest. The American businessman advanced in talks with Greek Evangelos Marinakis to negotiate the athletes for approximately 35 million euros and keep them on the team until the World Cup. The English club even sent documentation with the official proposal, but it was rejected by the SAF board in the last hours of this Thursday.
Subsequently, the Court’s decision to prohibit Botafogo from selling players without the approval of the social club and the Court ended the possibility of the deal being completed once and for all. The black and white association’s wing is also against the idea of selling the duo to the English.
