Ter Stegen: Potential Spanish League Transfer?

Marc-André ter Stegen is said to be on the verge of leaving FC Barcelona.

As reported by “Ràdio Girona – SER Catalunya”, among others, the German national goalkeeper is about to go on loan to FC Girona in the Spanish LaLiga.

Only the final details remain to be clarified between the two Catalan clubs. The loan to the current table 13th. should run until the end of the season. Ter Stegen’s contract with Barcelona runs until 2028.

Match practice for the World Cup

The 33-year-old has been playing for Blaugrana since 2014. However, after a long-term injury in September 2024, the captain was no longer able to assert himself as number one. He is currently only number three behind Joan Garcia and Wojciech Szczesny.

Through the loan, Ter Stegen wants to gain match practice, especially with a view to the upcoming World Cup. He will also have to give up a large part of his salary for this.

The German national coach Julian Nagelsmann repeatedly emphasized that he planned with Ter Stegen as number one, but a certain amount of match practice was still necessary.
