Svitolina Defeats Andreeva: Ukrainian Tennis Victory

The Ukrainian Elina Svitolina defeated the Russian Mirra Andreeva (6-2 6-4). She therefore joins Coco Gauff in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.

Last 8th final of the day, Elina Svitolina (12th) faced Mirra Andreeva (7th). It was ultimately the Ukrainian Svitolina who won in two sets (6-2, 6-4). She therefore qualifies for the quarter-finals of the Australian Open where she will face the American Coco Gauff (3rd).

In the first set, Svitolina broke Andreeva three times to win the first set 6/2 in 36 minutes. The second set will be more contested. Andreeva breaks entry. Svitolina will take her serve back at 2/2 then the two players will be neck and neck until 5/4. The Russian breaks down in her last service game after a 1h24 battle.

Still undefeated in 2026, the Ukrainian scored her ninth victory in a row on Sunday and continues the momentum of her title at the WTA 250 in Auckland in early January. Qualified for her fourth quarter-final in Melbourne after those of 2018, 2019 and 2025, she will try on Tuesday to enter the final four of the Australian Open for the first time.
