Svend Videbæk: I Love My Badminton Club – BadmintonBladet

I care about the club

I like the halls
with the occasionally slightly too cold or warm air
and the intense atmosphere
The sound of shoes against the floor
and of the badminton
that rushes off
from an excellent backhand
and sometimes just die
way too soon

I care about the club

Today is not the day
where we count points
but today
we take a break
A break
from line judgments
from discussions
from complaints about the quality of the badminton
Today
we care about something else
For Gladsaxe Søborg Badminton
is not just a place
where you hit a ball

I care about the club

The club where you show up for training
and suddenly
four hours have passed
without man
right discovered it
The club where also sauna and not least
Eating together is an important part of training

I care about the club

You come for badminton
and you stay
for the community
alluring coziness and friendship

I care about the club

The club with volunteers
that says
“yes, I can do that well”
and afterwards discovers
that they now stand
with tournament
cake stand
driving arrangement
and the keys to the ball locker and the entire hall

I care about the club

Many years pass and traditions remain
Week after week and year after year
It is exactly that
that makes the club
to more than one club and to my club

I care about the club

What has Gladsaxe Søborg Badminton given us?

It has given us fights
good matches
and matches
we prefer not to mention
matches
where we felt
as world champions
in any case
until the next set
Fighting
who taught us
cooperation
will
and the arts
the art of deep breathing
when it all didn’t quite go as planned and we
missed it
obvious victory

I care about the club

The parties
where the badminton floor
was replaced
and the floor
turned into a dance floor
full of laughter
and stories
it gets better
and more exaggerated
year by year
The parties where we learned to drink
The parties where love was time and again sought and occasionally found

I care about the club

With experiences
which does not stand
in some training program
friendships for life
fewer
we still laugh at
and something
that means more
than the result
on the board

I care about the club

Trips to other clubs
Early Sunday mornings
filled with badminton
community
latter
and the special club atmosphere
where one suddenly
know each other
much better
than was thought

I care about the club

All this
only happens
because someone
chooses
to spend their time
here in the quiet
then the rest of us
can show up
play badminton
and have fun
Without thinking
what preparation lies behind

I care about the club

This speech is therefore
primarily
a thank you and a tribute from all of us

I care about the club

A big one
and thank you very much
Thanks to all volunteers
the ones we see
and them
we sometimes forget
to say thank you to
Thank you for your commitment
the energy
and the huge heart we all have
for the club

I care about the club

Gladsaxe Søborg Badminton Club
is the proof of
that when voluntariness
community
and a little badminton magic
meet
then something happens
very special

I care about the club

In the hall
with the shuttlecock
with the community
and with you

It’s worth it
to celebrate

No ❤

BEAUTIFUL SPEECH FOR THIS YEAR’S TRIBUTE AND THANKSGIVING DINNER FOR THE CLUB’S MANY VOLUNTEERS

Last Saturday we held our traditional Tribute and Thanks dinner for the club’s many volunteers at Madhus24.

True to tradition, we always have a celebratory speaker with a big club heart – and this year it was the club’s Honorary Member Svend Videbæk who had been given the honor. Svend became a member of the club on 1 September 1970, he has played more than 800 matches for the club and has been a volunteer in the club for more than 30 years – A real GSB’er ❤

For the speech, Svend had written a beautiful poem about his love for the club and the community, inspired by Dan Turrell’s “Homage to everyday life” from 1993.
