Seattle, United States 01/28/2026 (More).- With a history forged between Mexico and the United States, Elijah Arroyo, rookie tight end of the Seattle Seahawks, is preparing to play in Super Bowl LX, in which his team will face the New England Patriots, in a rematch that revives the classic duel from eleven years ago.
Although born in the United States, Arroyo lived part of his childhood in Cancun, Mexico, where he took his first steps in American football, facing adverse conditions, but developing a collective and resilient mentality. “Playing there turned me into a team player, someone who thinks first about my teammates and not just about statistics,” he declared.
Arroyo has repeatedly expressed his pride in his Mexican last name and in representing a bicultural identity in the NFL. His grandparents are originally from Mexico, and his time on children’s teams in Yucatán and Quintana Roo was key to his development as an athlete.
“Having a Mexican surname and being able to represent the people of Mexico means a lot to me. I know that I represent something bigger than just me, and that fills me with pride,” he said in recent interviews. In addition, he has shared his taste for mole, tequila and other aspects of Mexican culture that are part of his identity.
Arroyo for the NFL
Selected in the second round of the 2025 Draft, Arroyo joined Seattle’s roster as a promise to strengthen the offense. In his debut season he played in 13 games, with 15 receptions for 179 yards and a touchdown, before injuring his knee. Although he missed part of the regular season finale and the Divisional Round, he was activated in time for the NFC championship game.
Under the direction of coach Mike Macdonald and with Sam Darnold as quarterback, the Seahawks defeated the Los Angeles Rams 31-27, securing their place in the Super Bowl, the fourth in franchise history. The team will seek to win its second Vince Lombardi trophy, with a solid defense and an offense reinforced by the return of Arroyo.
The player’s participation also represents a Mexican presence on the biggest stage of American football, which has sparked enthusiasm among fans of both countries.
The showdown between the Seahawks and Patriots revives one of the most iconic moments in recent NFL history. With this return, Seattle not only seeks revenge, but also consolidates a new era led by a young generation, including Elijah Arroyo, who combines talent, projection and a history of effort that crosses borders.
