■ Chess: On Saturday, January 10th, the Bonn-Rhein-Sieg Chess Youth is organizing an open youth chess tournament at the Troisdorf comprehensive school. All children and young people interested in chess from U8 to U16 can play – even if they don’t belong to a club. The tournament starts at 11 a.m. and seven rounds are played in the Swiss system. Participation is free, and there are trophies for the best players. ■ Run: Volunteers are urgently needed for the Deutsche Post Marathon Bonn on April 19, 2026. With around 350 volunteers, the organizational team would like to build on the successful previous years. Support is primarily needed for issuing start numbers (Friday and Sunday), catering at the finish line, the cloakroom, marshals and the relay changing points. Helpers receive clothing in marathon design, clubs receive 20 euros per supporter for the club’s coffers, and there is also an invitation to an event after the event. ■ Judo: A strong start to the new year for the SSF Bonn judo department: At the international tournament “Trofee van de Donderslagh” in Gruitrode-Meeuwen, Belgium, the Bonn athletes won a total of eight gold, one silver and five bronze medals on the first weekend in January. The competition took place in the age groups U11, U13, U15, U18 and 21+. Particularly outstanding: In the U13, all SSF participants secured first place and thus a perfect team result. ga
■ Basketball: The Dragons Rhöndorf started the new year successfully with a 91:77 away win at the TSK 49ers and thus took revenge for the first leg defeat. Despite the loss of point guard Jorge Mejias, the young team impressed, especially Dusan Ilic (16 points/8 assists), Tom Viehöfer with important three-pointers and strong rebound players like Benjamin Sadikovic (double-double) and Juhwan Harris-Dyson. ga
Run: The fifth run of the Alfterer SC’s 51st winter running series will take place on Sunday. The event is not a competition, but an ideal winter bridging in a family environment for competitors and amateur athletes. Circular routes of ten kilometers, 15 kilometers and 20 kilometers are offered on marked forest paths in the Kottenforst Nature Park, traffic-free and can be covered several times in any combination.
