Sporting Transfer News: Palmeiro on Faye Deal

Bernardo Palmeiro, general director of Sporting, said that Faye’s arrival at the Lions is a “matter of time” and revealed that the squad will remain closed, “unless there is some way out”.

«We made some adjustments, Luís Guilherme has already arrived, and we are negotiating another player that we hope to resolve in the next few days. We consider that the squad will probably be closed, unless there is a departure. We had the bad luck of Quaresma in the League Cup, Diomande, and let’s hope it won’t be too long. I believe that they will not need to reinforce their defense. We are satisfied with the squad assembled, we will go to the second round and there will be competitions with the ones we have. Faye? It’s a matter of time, we are in the negotiation phase and it’s a matter of a few more days”, he commented, speaking to journalists, on the sidelines of the draw for the Portuguese Cup semi-finals.

At the microphones of Canal 11, the Sporting director previewed the duel with Aves SAD, in the quarter-finals, and a possible duel with FC Porto in the semi-finals.

«I would like to start by congratulating Fafe and Torreense. It is proof that professional football and professional SAD projects in Portugal are growing. We begin to increasingly shorten the difference between divisions. There are no easy games, much less in the Portuguese Cup. We are focused on the game against Aves SAD and it is difficult to talk about what we will find afterwards. It’s a team at our level and we have a tight schedule. If we are lucky enough to go through, we will catch FC Porto, who eliminated Benfica and are in a good moment. We are the holders of the titles and we have the obligation to aspire to win it again», he pointed out.

“A draw is a draw. After two rounds we would always have difficulties. We are in several races, we have had problems with injuries. The paths that Fafe and Torreense have followed deserve all the respect. These are teams that have a lot of ambition,” he added.
