Ski jumpers Geiger and Paschke have no chance in the super team
Without the two currently best, the German duo in the Super Team has no chance of getting involved in the fight for the podium places. The reason for disqualification is unusual.
The decimated German ski jumpers disappointed again at the World Cup in Zakopane, Poland. As expected, Karl Geiger and Pius Paschke were unable to intervene in the fight for the podium places in the Super Team competition. The German duo took sixth place. “It didn’t work out as well as we had imagined. The training actually went well,” said national coach Stefan Horngacher on ARD.
The Austrians Stephan Embacher and Jan Hörl secured victory with a large lead. Second place went to the team from Slovenia, who were without Four Hills Tournament winner Domen Prevc. Poland came in third place. The currently best members of the Horngacher team are missing this weekend. Felix Hoffmann has knee problems, Philipp Raimund is ill.
In the Super Team, which will be held at the Winter Olympics for the first time this year, two athletes per nation will jump. The athletes from the best teams are each challenged three times.
Italians disqualified
The disqualification of the Italian Francesco Cecon caused a stir in the Polish ski jumping stronghold. His removal from the competition was justified by the world association FIS with manipulation of the suit before the start. The Fis did not initially disclose what this exactly consisted of. The reasoning is unusual.
After the scandal surrounding the tampering with the Norwegian team’s jumpsuits at the World Championships in Trondheim last year, material controls were tightened. There had already been disqualifications at the Four Hills Tournament and in other previous World Cup competitions. The reason for this was often that the suit length was not permitted.
