IThe result between Alfinoleffe and Pro Vercelli, with the lions defeated 2-1 on Saturday, was not approved by the sports judge. «Having taken note of the pre-announcement of the complaint presented by Pro Vercelli, against the regularity of the match – we read in the reasons – the sports judge suspends the judgment regarding the approval of the result, without prejudice to the disciplinary measures taken against members and the company as per the documents, as reported below». Pro Vercelli lodged an appeal yesterday and if they win it could get the match repeated. The reason for the appeal would be linked to the episode which, with FVS, led to the expulsion, for a double yellow, of the striker Akpa Akpro, in the second half. It remains to be seen for what reason Albinoleffe requested Football Video Support, a tool that can only be used for episodes involving a direct red card and not a warning. Apparently it could be a “technical error”.
Albinoleffe probably asked for the expulsion of Akpa Akpro on that occasion, not being able to ask for a warning (since the foul was not of that magnitude) and the referee, in making the best decision after checking the images, therefore drew the yellow card, which instead “in real time” he had not done. The FVS, designed to help match directors better manage matches, does not always work as it should: there are some “flaws” in interpretation. Which therefore needs to be remedied as soon as possible.
A bit like what happened in a much-discussed episode at the beginning of the season, during Carpi-Juve Next Gen. A Carpi defender had received a second warning for an alleged hand touch (which later turned out to be a chest touch): the Carpi coach, not being able to request a review for a simple yellow card as per the protocol, had used the FVS to ask for a direct red card: the referee on the monitor retraced his steps, annulled the yellow card and did not send the player off. After that episode, not covered by the FVS rules, all referees were instructed not to accept challenges against their team. Football Video Support can only be used for clear and evident errors in four specific cases: assignment of goals (to verify fouls or offside), penalties (to confirm or not the foul), direct expulsions (not second yellow cards) and errors of identity (exchange of player to be cautioned/sent off). Each team has two “calls” per game, which are returned if the referee changes the decision, otherwise they are lost.
In the next few days the sports judge will decide on the Pro’s appeal and it will be known whether the result will be approved or whether the two teams will have to take to the field again to replay the match. Pro Vercelli, meanwhile, returned from the away match with a 300 euro fine because five supporters had insulted the 4th man.
Today at Pro the arrival of the left-handed central defender, born in 2004, Jacopo Regonesi, owned by Atalanta, currently playing for Latina in this first part of the season, will be made official. The defender had played a few minutes in the Italian Cup match, at Piola, which had seen Latina eliminate the Pro. Anton is leaving, and should join Sanremese.
