Semedo: Al Nassr’s Winter Warrior

The Saudi press revealed, in the last few hours, an alleged power struggle at Al Nassr, a club that has Portuguese Cristiano Ronaldo and João Félix on its squad, coached by compatriot Jorge Jesus.

According to Arriyadiyah, the club’s CEO, also Portuguese José Semedo, has his powers frozen.

The same source adds that the decision was approved by a majority of the Al Nassr Board of Directors, and communicated to the club’s various departments, via email, on Tuesday afternoon, a few hours before the game with Al Ettifaq.

Shortly afterwards, a second email was sent, by Mohammed Al-Sukait, general secretary of the club, informing that all decisions would now have to undergo his approval.

A friend of Cristiano Ronaldo since they were teammates at Sporting, José Semedo ended his playing career in 2022/23, playing for Vitória de Setúbal, after having represented Casa Pia, Feirense, Cagliari, Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday. Having hung up his boots, Semedo intensified his collaboration with CR7, but last July he was announced as the new CEO of Al Nassr.

A few days later, Al Nassr announced another Portuguese member for the structure: Simão Coutinho, who also played for Sporting as a player, stopped being an agent at Proeleven and became sporting director of the Saudi club.
