Seidel/Nguyen: Malaysia Open 2026 Round of 16

The German mixed team Marvin Seidel and Thuc Nguyen are starting the international badminton year 2026 with an exclamation mark. At the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2026, the duo made it into the round of 16.

With the PETRONAS Malaysia Open 2026 from January 6th to 11th in Kuala Lumpur, the BWF World Tour opened the new year with one of the highlights in international badminton sport. The tournament belongs to the highest category of the World Tour, the Super 1000 events, which, in addition to the Malaysia Open, also include the All England Open, the China Open and the Indonesia Open. A total of $1,450,000 in prize money will be awarded.

Marvin Seidel and Thuc Nguyen competed in the mixed doubles for Germany. After a promising start to their partnership in 2025, the duo has now confirmed their positive development on the big stage. In the first round, Seidel and Nguyen defeated the Taiwanese pairing Yang Po-Hsuan and Hu Ling Fang, ranked 18th in the world, after an intense three-set match with 18:21, 21:19 and 21:12.

Head national coach Hannes Käsbauer spoke of a successful debut at the highest level: “It was a top victory for both of them in their first World Tour 1000 tournament. We are hungry for more and want to use the time to develop and stabilize our own level.”

One of the currently strongest mixed pairings in the world is waiting there on Thursday: Guo Xin Wa and Chen Fang Hui from China, who won the All England Open in 2025 and impressed with the bronze medal at the World Championships.
