After playing abroad for the past five seasons, 34-year-old Sebastian Wännström returned home to Sweden for this year’s season. He first signed a short-term contract with Malmö Redhawks in the SHL but was released after just three games. Later, Wännström moved to Björklöven instead, where he also signed a short-term contract. There were six games with the Allsvenskan league leaders before the forward was released and had to search for a new club address.

Last week, Wännström was said to be in agreement with Troja-Ljungby about a move to Småland. But Saturday came Express’s Johan Svensson with information that the move to Troja will not take place because Sebastian Wännström has not got the family situation together in connection with the planned transfer.

Now, on the other hand, Wännström seems to have found a new club since the Troja move did not go through.

Sebastian Wännström moves to Switzerland

Aftonbladet stated on Wednesday that Sebastian Wännström is ready for a new move abroad. According to the newspaper, the 34-year-old has completed a move to La Chaux-de-Fonds, who play in the Swiss second division. There, in such cases, he would become teammates with the Swedes Viktor Östlund and David Lindquist. La Chaux-de-Fonds is currently second in the Swiss League and is fighting for promotion to the top league, the National League.

Sebastian Wännström was born and raised in Gävle where he came up early in Brynäs and won SM gold with 2012. He has also played SHL hockey for Rögle, HV71, Leksand and Malmö. In total, he has been recorded for 104 points in 311 games in the SHL. Before this year’s season, Wännström spent several years abroad, where he won the shooting league in Liiga in the 2020/21 season, among other things. This will be the forward’s second stay in Switzerland as he played 19 games for HC Ajoie in the 2021/22 season.
