Sebastian Samuelsson Wins: Biathlon Season First Victory

Sebastian Samuelsson did not find his way on the fence during Wednesday’s relay. The Swede missed three shots as Sweden missed the podium.

Things went even better in the sprint, two days later.

Sebastian Samuelsson shot full in both lying and standing, and took home the season’s first individual victory.

– This is not the best shooting series he has delivered. It’s quite arrhythmic, some shots come quickly and some take a little longer, but he puts them all. He works them down, and he flies forward in the track, says SVT’s expert Mona Brorsson.

“Don’t know what to say”

The victory also comes in a timely manner, with the Olympics around the corner. The sprint in Ruhpolding was the last before the Games, which begin on February 6.

After the long-awaited victory, where Samuelsson was over 17 seconds faster than runner-up Tommaso Giacomel, Italy, and Norway’s Isak Frey, he was emotional.

– For the first time, I don’t know what to say. I feel quite moved. I think this was awesome.

– I have been extremely nervous before this sprint. I’ve been thinking like “it’s an easy course, it won’t make any difference in the track, everyone is shooting full, everyone is shooting fast…” I’m very happy with how I managed to just focus on myself and do my race.

Ponsiluoma impressed – just one miss

Martin Ponsiluoma also put in a strong effort on Saturday.

The Swede, who was responsible for a monster distance during the relay on Wednesday, missed only one shot and finished in sixth place.
