Seahawks: Potential Loss of Key Offensive Players

The Seattle Seahawks have injury concerns ahead of their duel with the Los Angeles Rams. Two important pillars of the offense are in danger of failing.

Sam Darnold’s appearance was already questionable before the divisional round game against the San Francisco 49ers. An abdominal muscle injury slowed the Seattle Seahawks quarterback in the week leading up to the game.

Darnold gritted his teeth and played in the dominant 48-6 win over the Niners. But Darnold is only on the field for a limited time this training week, head coach Mike MacDonald is protecting him from too much stress.

However, it is very unlikely that he will miss the Los Angeles Rams. In videos of the training he warms up normally, it’s more of a precautionary measure.

Seattle Seahawks: Charles Cross not at practice

The Hawks are more concerned about left tackle Charles Cross, Darnold’s primary protector on the offensive line. He was missing due to a foot injury sustained in the divisional playoff.

He wasn’t at training on Thursday. MacDonald said he was “optimistic,” but also added, “We’ll have to see what it looks like.”

This is particularly problematic because both Cross’ first backup Josh Jones and third left tackle Amari Knight were unable to practice. “We have to look and evaluate them every day,” explains MacDonald.

About three weeks ago, Cross signed a four-year, $104.4 million contract.
