SC Itzehoe: Badminton League North – 3rd Place Secured

The start of the league game weekend began with bad news for the SC Itzehoe first team. Since Malte Blohm was unavailable for the home game against SG Hammer/Altenholz/Molfsee at very short notice, the Itzehoers had to improvise with the line-up. Without further ado, Lars Brosowski was “reactivated” for the home game after two years of abstinence from badminton. And he showed that he didn’t forget anything during the long break. Alongside his long-time doubles partner Dirk Kaack, he first secured the second men’s doubles in two straight sets and then just as confidently secured the third men’s singles.

The evening also went according to plan for the Störstadt team in the other disciplines. The guests were only able to score points in the women’s singles. All other games went to the SCI without losing a set. The Itzehoe sports club has thus consolidated its place in the top group of the North Regional League and has the opportunity to improve next weekend. On Saturday at 2:00 p.m. the Störstädter team will be visiting bottom team TSV Nord Harrislee and are aiming for another success there.

The SCI’s second team was less successful in the home game against ATSV Stockelsdorf 2. The only thing the Itzehoers had to celebrate was the national league debut of home-grown player Timon Reese, who represented the absent team captain Heiko Schulz and provided the most exciting games of the evening. In both the 2nd men’s doubles with Daniel Erdtmann and the 3rd men’s singles, Reese had a sniff of winning the set, but despite a strong performance, he was narrowly defeated by 21:23 and 24:26 in the second set. Since the strong guests from Ostholstein continued to live up to their role as favorites in the remaining games, in the end there was a clear 0:8 away win on the scoresheet.

With the defeat, the Steinburgers slide to the bottom of the table in the Landesliga Süd, as the previous bottom team from Eutin achieved their first win of the season at the weekend. Next Sunday morning at 10 a.m. a very important duel in the relegation battle awaits the Störstädter in Neumünster. The opponent is the fifth representative of BW Wittorf, which is currently in the first non-relegation place.
