Albertville Badminton Club Hosts Pink Bad Night for Charity

Participants at the recent Pink Bad Night in Albertville strapped on 10-kilogram weighted vests, sat in wheelchairs, and wore ear-muffling headphones while trying to play badminton, experiencing firsthand the physical barriers faced by post-operative patients and people living with disabilities. Hosted by the Badminton Albertville Club on Friday, Oct. 23, the event at the downtown gymnasium drew members and local amateurs alike for an evening blending sport with community awareness.

Club president Quentin Carret organized the gathering to open doors for both seasoned players and newcomers beginning at 6:30 p.m. Organizers welcomed participants of all ages with a request to wear a touch of pink in support of the Pink October awareness campaign. Rather than standard matches, the courts featured specialized setups designed to simulate physical impairments.

Players rotated through distinct playing conditions: competing from wheelchairs in both free and pushed configurations, moving past opaque nets, striking shuttlecocks with beach ball racquets, and wearing sensory-blocking headgear. The exercises aimed to demystify daily hurdles encountered by individuals recovering from major medical procedures or managing long-term mobility challenges.

Event Proceeds Will Support CHAM Oncology Department

Beyond the competitive drills, the evening featured informational tables, prevention campaigns, and refreshment stands offering snacks and beverages alongside a charity tombola. Organizers confirmed that all financial proceeds generated during the event will be donated directly to the oncology department at the Centre Hospitalier Albertville-Moûtiers (CHAM).

The hospital’s oncology service maintained an active presence at the venue throughout the evening. Annabelle Buthod-Ruffier, a healthcare manager at CHAM, and Lydie Pichon, a social worker, attended the event to represent the medical staff and connect with local participants regarding cancer care and support resources in the region.
