Salzburg Bull 2026: Day 1 Highlights & Surprises

Published: January 2, 2026 4:17 p.m

The first day of the Salzburg Bull 2026 is history. The audience was already treated to a lot. Defending champion Siezenheim’s derby defeat against HSV Wals was particularly explosive. We were there for you on site.

The performance of the UFC Siezenheim (Flachgau) was eagerly awaited after their debut victory at the Salzburger Stier last year. In the first encounter, the Flachgau team were fully challenged and were only just able to prevail against Thalgau. However, someone else caused a big surprise in Group A. Starting with a clear win against Köstendorf, HSV Wals also stood up to the two Salzburg league teams in the group. In a dramatic game against Thalgau, the Walsers even made up a 4-0 deficit and were able to secure a draw. The performance was crowned with a surprising win against the neighbors from Siezenheim. This means that Wals goes into the second round as first in Group A, directly ahead of Siezenheim. Also notable in this group was a goalkeeper goal from Thalgau’s Berni Löw. After an opening win against Köstendorf, Wals managed a sensational comeback against Thalgau.

The defending champion from Siezenheim around Corvin Resch had to accept a small setback.

Defending champion Siezenheim beat Thalgau with a narrow 2-1.

Oberalm surprised, tension in Group C

1. Oberalmer SV also caused a surprise early in the tournament, winning against SV Grödig, who played two classes higher. The team from the 2nd regional league remained flawless throughout the group phase and secured first place in Group B with three wins. The Grödigers, in turn, rehabilitated themselves and were able to secure their place in the intermediate round with two wins. In Group C there was a close race between last year’s finalists Bürmoos, Anthering and Obertrum. All three teams scored six points. Due to the better goal difference, Obertrum and Bürmoos secured a permanent place in the second round. Anthering at least has a good chance of progressing as one of the two best third-place teams in the group.

Tomorrow the eyes will be primarily on Group E. The three Salzburg league teams Straßwalchen, Hallwang and Neumarkt meet here. There is also a club from the 1st regional league, Bergheim. “This is of course great for us,” said Stier organizer Wolfgang Mayer, who told S24 that he was excited about this group.
