The mayor of Salamanca, Carlos García Carbayo, today presented the project for the new Pizarrales sports pavilion that will be built between Obispo Sancho de Castilla and Carmen Martín Gaite avenues, a facility that will allow the practice of multiple sports and will become a benchmark for the neighborhood and the city.
The new facility will be the twelfth of its kind in the capital, which currently has three athletics tracks, nine swimming pools, fourteen tennis courts, seventeen soccer fields and 42 outdoor multi-sports courts.
The pavilion will allow you to practice sports such as indoor soccer, basketball, rhythmic gymnastics, handball, volleyball, badminton, judo, karate, kickboxing and adapted sports. In addition, it will have a gym and rooms for physical-sports activities for adults, such as maintenance, Pilates and yoga.

The project, with a budget of 11.5 million euros and an execution period of 24 months, will include a central court with capacity for 1,600 spectators.
This track can be divided into two indoor soccer, basketball or handball fields thanks to its retractable stands. There will also be an attached multi-sports court with capacity for 160 spectators, divisible into three spaces for basketball, volleyball and badminton.
The two spaces will allow training and competitions to be held simultaneously, especially school and grassroots federated sports.
The main court has been designed so that two indoor soccer or basketball teams can train on a full field, separating the fields with a dividing curtain.
The attached track will allow the simultaneous practice of several disciplines. This versatility will be maintained during the competitions, making it possible to combine school sports activities with provincial or regional championships.
The retractable stands will adapt to the type of competition and the space occupied, offering flexibility in the use of the pavilion. It is estimated that the sports center will receive an average of 2,000 users per week, with 600 concentrated on weekends.
Carbayo has detailed that, although the use will be preferential for grassroots sports, the central court will be able to host high-level competitions thanks to its capacity.
Both the main and adjacent courts will be approved for regional and national indoor soccer, basketball, handball, rhythmic gymnastics, badminton and volleyball championships.
The facility will include a cafeteria, a fully equipped 200-square-meter gym and a 150-square-meter multipurpose room for guided and virtual activities.

“We are therefore going to have a very versatile facility. In fact, there is currently no pavilion of these characteristics in Castilla y León capable of hosting so many different sports at the same time,” said the mayor.
The project will cover the entire 14,768 square meter plot, incorporating a green area of 4,550 square meters with 109 trees and 1,870 shrubs, a new parking lot for 80 vehicles and an outdoor sports court.
Carbayo highlighted that this is “first-level infrastructure” for Pizarrales, a neighborhood that has received municipal investments of 19.07 million euros since 2019.
These include the new Carmen Martín Gaite library, protected housing developments, renovation of the Ledesma road, expansion of the municipal daycare center, new parking lots and the development of PERI7 in the nearby Barrio Blanco.
