Rots Brothers Departure: Content Writer vs VA

Brothers Daan and Mats Rots are almost inseparable. The duo from Groenlo has the unique privilege of playing together in the first team of a professional club, something that many other footballers dream of. They recently bought a house together in Groenlo. A semi-detached house and the brothers have already decided to remove the fence between the two gardens. “Can we just walk in together?” said a practical Daan.

“We both have our own lives, but it is nice to be able to share so much with each other,” Mats continues in conversation with Geert-Jan Jakobs of Voetbal International. The link back strikes a chord there, because how long will he and his big brother play together at FC Twente? Mats is the greatest talent and is clearly in the picture at Ajax.

“If a club comes for me or something like that, I will definitely go to Daan. Last year Ajax was interested. We will talk about that.” Daan: “You talk about it at home, but I didn’t say: You have to do this or that.” Mats: “It didn’t become that concrete.” Daan: “It’s wonderful to play together as brothers, but we shouldn’t let that guide us.”

Mats and Daan Rots

“We make our choices independently of each other. I hope that we can play together for at least another year, but it could also only be a few months. Then I am thinking of an offer for Mats that Twente cannot refuse.” Mats: “If you continue like this, you might leave early.”

Daan does not expect that he and Mats will find a club again after FC Twente where they will play together in one team: “After Twente, I don’t see us playing together anywhere anytime soon. At SV Grol, yes. The Dutch national team? Haha. He can make it, I don’t see that happening for me. But you never know. You can fantasize. But I am also realistic. What we are experiencing now is very special. We must cherish that time together.”
