Stije Resink is willing to negotiate with Benfica. The Groningen captain made statements to the newspaper Dagblad van het Noorden this Friday in which he admitted that he would like to “at least talk” with the Portuguese club.
The Dutch press reported in the last few hours that the defensive midfielder even had a telephone conversation with José Mourinho, but that the Dutch club’s demands are holding back the deal.
«Sometimes clubs and values arise that require serious reflection. There are no offers received from Groningen yet, so I have to wait and see what happens. I’m definitely trying to do everything as professionally as possible. I think this is important, for my teammates, for the club and for the fans”, admits Resink.
«As a player, I would at least like to enter into talks if a club of Champions League caliber emerged, for example. That doesn’t mean I want to force a transfer straight away, but I want to be at the negotiating table. In my opinion, a partnership between club and player works both ways”, explains the midfielder.
The Dutch press says that Resink, captain of the fifth-placed Eredivisie, will have a release clause of six million euros in the summer. At the moment, this value stands at ten.
