Il Regions Trophy[1] it is a tournament that takes place annually between the regional youth teams, both of the men’s (Under 14) and women’s (Under 15) sectors. It was established in 1982 under the name of Decio Scuri Tournamentin honor of one of the pioneers of Italian basketball, and ran annually until 1992. After some occasional editions, the Federation reactivated it for the two sections in 2003 with its current name[2].
In the recent roll of honor[3] Lombardy is the region with the most victories (2000, 2001, 2003, 2012, 2015 and 2018 for men, 2005, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2018 and 2019 for women) then Veneto (2005, 2006, 2007 and 2019 male, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014 female); followed by Tuscany (2004 and 2009 male, 2015 female), Lazio (2008, 2011 and 2014 male), Friuli-Venezia Giulia (2002 female), and Emilia-Romagna (2010 male).
The “Bulgheroni Trophy” is a tournament that has been held annually since 1989, the year of the first edition, reserved for the regional representatives of the Under 13 male and female categories. In fact, this tournament offers an appetizer of what will be the Regions Trophy (reserved for the Under 14 male and Under 15 female categories). In 2011 the Lombard team did an encore, that is, winning in both categories, while in 2012 it was Veneto that triumphed in the men’s category while the Lombard team reconfirmed itself in the women’s category. The Bormio 2014 edition once again saw the success of the men’s Lombardy team, while for the women’s tournament there was the success of Tuscany.
