OGC Nice claimed a 2-1 victory away against Stade Brestois in the opening fixture of the eighth round of the French Ligue 1 championship. The win marks Nice’s first success on the road this season after dropping their opening three away fixtures.
Ajorque scores after Diouf loses possession
Brest capitalized on early defensive errors from the visitors. In the 15th minute, Nice goalkeeper Yehvann Diouf hesitated deep inside his own penalty area, allowing Brest forward Ludovic Ajorque to steal possession and tap the ball into an empty net to break the deadlock. Diouf nearly conceded a second shortly before halftime when another misplayed clearance fell directly to Mama Baldé, whose cross found Kamory Doumbia, though Doumbia missed the target with the goal unguarded.
Second-half turnaround led by Wahi and Diop
Nice regrouped after the interval to alter the match’s trajectory. Forward Elye Wahi equalized in the 61st minute by netting his third goal of the Ligue 1 campaign. Midfielder Sofiane Diop then completed the comeback in the 83rd minute by intercepting a pass from Brest defender Bradley Locko, combining with Wahi, and converting a right-footed shot inside the box for his first league goal of the season.

Late penalty drama preserves the result
Brest nearly salvaged a draw deep into stoppage time when the referee awarded a penalty following a video assistant referee review. Defender Kenny Lala stepped up to take the spot-kick in the 10th minute of added time, but Diouf guessed correctly, diving to his right to beat away the right-footed effort. Noah Edjouma fired the rebound into the side netting, sealing the three points for the visitors.
Nice climbs to eighth place in Ligue 1
With the three points secured at Stade Francis-Le Blé, Nice climbed to eighth place in the Ligue 1 standings with 11 points, surpassing Brest, who dropped to 11th with nine points.
