In the depths of Brittany, a match had to be interrupted after the referee was attacked and taken to hospital. The sanction is commensurate with the seriousness of the facts.

A shameful event took place in Morbihan at the end of November, in the second departmental division (i.e. the tenth national level out of eleven). During the match between Lignol and Guern, the local club led 2-1 at the heart of the second half and a visiting player was sent off directly for a dangerous tackle, in the position of a last defender. The latter quickly panicked and attacked the referee, who immediately collapsed to the ground and was then taken to Lorient hospital, after an initial intervention by the firefighters. The game did not resume and even a gendarmerie brigade went to the stadium (according to information from our colleagues at Télégramme).

“The referee was not necessarily on point”

The departmental union, UNAF 56, revealed that the culprit has just been suspended for no less than fourteen years: “We have supported our colleague at every stage, to ensure that his situation is fully supported. This important sanction underlines the seriousness of this behavior. All our support goes to our colleague, still impacted by this incident. UNAF 56 will continue to support him in the legal process. To the referees: you are never alone, the UNAF is at your side “A big thank you to the clubs for also respecting the specific protocol, put in place at the end of the year, to combat violence on our grounds.” The game director came from FC Lorient.

Guern’s side does not comment or indicate whether a call will be made. At the time of the events, President Pierre Sainleger, however, wanted to defend what could be defended, in any case according to him: “We regret the disproportionate media hype, not on the fact that this gesture is obviously reprehensible, but on what it tends to give as an image of our club. We are not in the northern districts of Marseille: it is an exceptional fact linked to the circumstantial reality of the moment. The player is not accustomed to the fact, and no, in In no case did he beat the referee.” While questioning in passing, nevertheless, the decisions of the poor official attacked: “We are waiting for the district to question him, he was not necessarily up to date on the protection of the physical integrity of the players. There were bad gestures which were not taken into account. From now on, of course, the club’s feedback will be commensurate with the acts committed.” Phew, we had some doubts!
