MELBOURNE – Tennis players Alena and Jana Kovačková triumphed in junior doubles at the Australian Open. In the Czech final in Melbourne, they defeated Tereza Heřmanová and Denisa Žoldáková 6:1, 6:3.

The seeded units dominated the duel for the title in 52 minutes and went through the tournament without losing a set. The Kovačková sisters won their second joint Grand Slam title in junior doubles. They also won the US Open last year.

They became the first Czech pair since 2015 to win junior doubles at the Australian Open. Margaréta Vondroušová and Miriam Kolodziejová (now Škoch) succeeded in this last time.

Seventeen-year-old Alena succeeded at the junior grand slams for the third time. She also holds the 2023 Wimbledon doubles title, which she won alongside Laura Samson. Heřmanová and Žoldáková reached the final of the Junior Grand Slam for the first time.

The Czech final in the junior women’s doubles grand slam took place for the first time. At the Australian Open, tennis players from one country fought for the title for the last time in 1988. At that time, the final match had an Australian composition.
