The contract situation of Quinten Timber (24) is still a much-discussed topic in De Kuip. In conversation with Football International the Feyenoord midfielder says that he did not expect it to cause such a stir among the fans.

Since January 1, Timber has been allowed to enter into discussions with interested clubs. It no longer appears that the international will extend his expiring contract with Feyenoord.

Many supporters think so, as can be seen from the banners and chants of recent months. Timber actually didn’t expect that. “Not that intense, no. It started in the summer when I was still injured, that people suddenly started experiencing it. You can tell by how they react on social media.”

“The striking thing is that Justin (Bijlow, ed.) is in exactly the same situation as me, but you don’t hear anything about it,” said Timber, who is trying to find an explanation. “I think that if he suddenly starts playing and is doing great, it will also become an item for him.”

Timber sees it as a compliment. “The supporters apparently want to keep me here and I am grateful to them for that.”

The midfielder emphasizes that it is not just about money for him. “That is always very easy. Of course, it always involves many more conditions. I do not want to go into details, because I am not at the table myself. What I can say is that it is never just about money.”

Timber recently refused to sit down with Lazio. He does not like a move to the middle of Serie A.
