Galatasaray Men’s Basketball Team entrusted the head coaching position to Italian coach Gianmarco Pozzecco after parting ways with Yakup Sekskök.
The yellow-red club announced that a contract was signed with Pozzecco that will be valid until the end of the 2026-2027 season. It was reported that the experienced coach will officially start his duty on January 5, 2026.
In the statement made on the club’s official website, “Our Galatasaray Men’s Basketball Team signed a contract valid until the end of the 2026-2027 season with Gianmarco Pozzecco, one of the important names of European basketball with his experience at the club and national team level. We wish success to our new head coach Gianmarco Pozzecco in his position, which he will start on January 5, 2026, and welcome him to the Galatasaray family.”

Pozzecco, who played for important clubs such as Varese, Fortitudo Bologna and Khimki in his playing career, played with the Italian National Team in the European Championships and the 2004 Athens Olympics. The experienced name, who won the Italian Serie A championship in his club career, also appeared in the EuroLeague finals.
Pozzecco, who stepped into coaching after his active basketball career, won the FIBA Europe Cup championship with Sassari in 2019 and was selected as the Coach of the Year in the FIBA Europe Cup in the same year. Following this success, he worked in leading clubs of European basketball such as Milano, ASVEL and Cedevita. Pozzecco served as the head coach of the Italian National Team between 2022 and 2025 and represented his country in the EuroBasket and the World Cup.
