To say that Philip Rivers has had an eventful few months is an understatement.
Brought out of retirement by the Indianapolis Colts earlier this season after four years without playing football, Rivers now has the opportunity to interview to become a head coach in the NFL.
Indeed, the Buffalo Bills have included him on their list of candidates to replace Sean McDermott, fired a few days ago.
Although Rivers, 44, enjoyed a long career as a quarterback, he never led a football team at the professional or college level.
Before the Colts called upon his services due to the team’s injuries at the center position, Rivers had served as the head coach of a high school football team in Alabama since 2021.
However, Rivers would have an excellent relationship with Bills quarterback Josh Allen. The latter, who is participating in the hiring process for the new head coach in Buffalo, faced and beat Rivers in the playoffs in January 2021.
This meeting would be the last in more than four years for Rivers.
In addition to Rivers, the Bills also plan to meet with former Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel, their associate coach Anthony Lynn, former Dolphins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver and Jacksonville Jaguars offensive coordinator Grant Udinski.
They have already obtained interviews with their offensive coordinator Joe Brady, former New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll as well as Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo.
