PBSI U-19 Selection: Road to Pelatnas | Badminton Indonesia

JAKARTA – The Indonesian Badminton Union (PBSI) will hold a national selection (seleknas) at the beginning of this month as part of the selection of athletes to enter the national training center (Pelatnas) in Cipayung.

The activities will take place from February 3 to 7, 2026 at Majeh Arena Wadas, Karawang, West Java. The selection was attended by 80 best athletes in the taruna category (U-19) who meet the conditions determined by the PBSI.

Head of PBSI’s Training and Performance Division, Eng Hian, insisted that the selections were an integral part of the national performance training system, which was implemented in several stages and on a continuous basis.

“Through this selection, PBSI ensures that the selection process for young athletes is objective, measurable and performance-based, as a first step towards training for Pelatnas PBSI,” Eng Hian said in a received statement.

Participants in the selections include tennis and table tennis athletes who are champions of the National Championship (Kejurnas) PBSI Individual Taruna Division I 2025, except for athletes who were recruited for the Pelatnas PBSI Cipayung.

In addition, this activity was attended by athletes born in 2007 and later who are ranked 15th nationally among the best cadets (U-19) in each sector with a calculation of the ranking which is used on December 24, 2025, after the establishment of the 2025 PBSI National Championship.

In addition to the selection path, the PBSI decided that three young athletes, Mayla Cahya Afilian Pratiwi (Mutiara Cardinal Bandung) from the women’s sector and Alexius Ongkytama Subagio/Aquino Evano Keneddy Tangka (Djarum Kudus) from the men’s sector will directly join the Pelatnas PBSI.

The three were recruited based on the consistent performance they exhibited throughout 2025 and the monitoring results of the PBSI mentoring team, so they were judged to have fulfilled the training criteria of Pelatnas Cipayung.

“The selection criteria which refer to Kejurnas results, national ranking and monitoring of the Talent Mentoring Team are designed to ensure that the chosen athletes not only have current performance, but also long-term development potential in line with the performance training direction of PBSI,” said Eng Hian.

Regarding doubles, athletes are allowed to exchange on the condition that the couple is in the top 16 of the national ranking, as well as a written agreement between the athlete and the Perkumpulan Bulu Tangkis (PB).

Athletes monitored by the PBSI Selection Team (Potential) may also be included as participants in the selections, even if they are not in the top 16 of the national rankings.

Meanwhile, for doubles athletes who have more than one partner and are both in the top 16 of the national rankings, the athlete must choose a partner to register for the selective.

As a confirmation of the commitment of performance training, singles and doubles athletes who emerge as champions of the PBSI 2026 selections are required to answer the call to enter the Pelatnas PBSI unconditionally.
