The Packers will attempt to reach a deal in the coming days to keep head coach Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
LaFleur has one year remaining on his current contract, making his future in Green Bay uncertain after Packers president Ed Policy said last June that he preferred not to have a coach at the end of his term.
LaFleur’s situation became even more precarious after the Packers squandered an 18-point lead Saturday night, losing 31-27 to the Chicago Bears.
LaFleur said Sunday he plans to speak with Policy soon, but declined to answer a question about whether he would be willing to continue coaching the team with just one year remaining on his contract.
The Packers went 76-40-1 in the regular season under LaFleur and qualified for the playoffs in six of his seven seasons. But they haven’t reached the Super Bowl and haven’t appeared in a conference championship game since the 2020 season.
LaFleur reiterated Sunday his desire to remain as Packers coach, although he would likely be a prime candidate for other positions if the Packers decided to fire him.
