A lesson in courage. Two weeks ago, Norwegian skier William Bostadloekken fell heavily during training before a round of the freestyle skiing World Cup scheduled for Steamboat, United States.
While the tips of his skis “caught during the jump” and he “landed with his head and back on the edge of the springboard”, the 20-year-old young man is now paraplegic. Victim of a complete spinal cord injury, he underwent surgery and his life is not in danger but his lower limbs are paralyzed.
“I will do everything in my power to come back”
For the first time since the accident, the Norwegian spoke on his Instagram account this Monday, December 29, explaining that he had not given up on returning to the slopes one day. “Skiing is truly what I love most in the world, it’s what I live for,” he wrote in the caption of a post showing him lying on his hospital bed.
“I will do everything in my power to come back and relive this incredible feeling. It certainly won’t be easy. This will be the hardest challenge I will ever face. There’s no guarantee it’s possible, but I refuse to give up. I will always fight,” he promised, “with a heavy heart,” in a message liked nearly 20,000 times in just four days.
