Nigrán: Spanish Badminton Hub Returns

This coming weekend, January 17 and 18, the best national badminton returns to the town of Nigrán on the occasion of the celebration of the second edition of the National Youth Master N3 Sub 13 – Sub 17 “Concello de Nigrán” in the Municipal Pavilion of Panxón.

The Club Escola Rosalía was awarded this competition by the Spanish Badminton Federation and with the intention of the Vigo entity to recover badminton in the Val Miñor region, this is why they wanted top-level badminton to “fly” again in Nigrán after the celebration last season of the first edition of this Master event.

Nigrán has been the birthplace of great players of this sport during the 80s and 90s, through the Nigrán Badminton Club, and where the entire Val Miñor was a national reference in this sport.

This competition will kick off the National Masters that will be held throughout the country during this year 2026. 140 players from all over Spain will travel to Nigrán, including numerous members of the different national teams and among whom, as always, the Galicians and Rosalians will have a lot to say.

Among the favorites of the competition we have names such as Eneko Rodríguez from Veiguez in the Under 13 men’s singles, Ruth Mercader from Murcia in the Under 13 women’s singles, and the Galicians Xulia Otero and Maia Freire in the Under 17 category. On the Rosalian side, Telma Ruso will be the main asset in the Under 13 women’s singles and Under 13 women’s doubles together with Lucía Rodríguez from Huesca. In addition, on behalf of the Rosalía Escola Club, the players Guillermo Valdés, Antón Firvida and Sara Alfaya have achieved classification by national ranking.

The match times will be on Saturday, January 17, from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. uninterruptedly. And on Sunday the semi-finals and finals start at 9:30 am.

This event is sponsored by the City Council of Nigrán and the Spanish and Galician Badminton Federations and has the support of the Higher Sports Council, the Provincial Council of Pontevedra, Xunta de Galicia and Asociación Escola Rosalía de Castro and the private firms of the Spanish Badminton Federation El Corte Inglés, Iberdrola, Loterías y Apuestas del Estado and Yonex. It also has the support of private collaborators Eurobanan Galicia, Agua Sana, Fit Center, Deportes Carlos Miguel, Trafema and Norfrío.
