NEC Striker Search: Feyenoord & Ajax Ex-Star Targeted

NEC is aiming high in the search for a successor to Kentho Shiogai. The people of Nijmegen are targeting Danilo, Voetbal International and De Gelderlander report on Monday. The former striker of Ajax and Feyenoord has to come over from Rangers.

NEC saw Shiogai leave for VfL Wolfsburg this winter for ten million euros, but is therefore thinly placed in the striker ranks. Since Youssef El Kachati is still sidelined with a wrist injury, Koki Ogawa is currently the only option at the point of attack. Although Bryan Linssen can also handle it, the number four in the Eredivisie wants reinforcement.

The 26-year-old Danilo already has the necessary experience in the Eredivisie. Ajax brought him to the Netherlands in 2017 and rented him to FC Twente in the 2021/2022 season, after which Feyenoord took him over. In 81 appearances in the Eredivisie, he scored 29 goals and nine assists. The Rotterdam team sold him after one season to Rangers, who paid more than six million euros for him.

The Brazilian was unable to secure a starting place at the Scottish top club. Despite this, he has already played 28 matches this season, scoring four times and providing two assists. On Sunday, the attacker was accurate as a substitute against Dundee (3-0).

NEC is now trying to hire him from Rangers. Danilo still has a contract in Glasgow until mid-2028. According to Football International Rangers are willing to let him go, but the question remains whether the Brazilian striker is feasible. There are also other candidates on the Nijmegen list.
