NBA in Europe: Silver Confirms PSG Talks

NBA boss Adam Silver confirmed that the major North American basketball league had held discussions with Paris SG with a view to the French club’s participation in a future NBA Europe.

Asked by reporters at a London hotel on Saturday about the existence of these discussions, Silver said: “ the answer is yes. This is an organization that we have spoken with. We have a lot of respect for their operational capacity.”

“Ability to build a brand, a community for PSG”

“It is certain that they operate at the highest level of competition. We know that they have the know-how to run a basketball club at the highest level, should that interest them.”added the American businessman, who met this week with potential investors in Berlin and London.

Thursday in Madrid, Silver confirmed discussions “with Real Madrid and other Spanish clubs”, evoking an approach aimed at “collect information” rather than formal invitations to join this planned competition.

NBA No.2 Mark Tatum said Paris was a market in which the North American league “absolutely wanted to be”. “One of the very interesting things about PSG is its ability to build a brand, a culture, a community”he said.

“As Adam (Silver) said, we want to find the right partners and there is no doubt that PSG has expertise in marketing, promotion and building a global brand,” he estimated.
