Moto des Sables: Rider Death – French Championship Race

A 21-year-old sand motorcycle rider died on Sunday evening after an accident that occurred a few hours earlier during a race in the French championship of the discipline in Grayan-et-l’Hôpital in Gironde, the organizer announced on Monday.

The driver, licensed at the Moto Club du Littoral near Dunkirk (North), entered for the second consecutive year in the competition, was hospitalized in Bordeaux, where he succumbed to his injuries, said the same source.

According to the Moto Verte website, a rider fell when landing a jump on the straight following the finish, and Raphaël Cholet was hit by another motorcycle as he got up.

According to the organizer, this is the first fatal accident in this competition created in 2005, whose premier event, the Enduropale, will be held from February 13 and 15 in Le Touquet (Pas-de-Calais).

The organizers of this event wanted to pay tribute to the young driver. “His sudden passing leaves the motorcycle community deeply affected,” they said in a post on social media.
