Miño Awards: Sports & Recognition Night in A Coruña

The auditorium of the A Rúa social center hosted a gala in which the City Council valued the 2024-2025 season and distinguished athletes, clubs and events for their achievements and their contribution to the municipality

The Miño City Council held the fourth edition of the Sports Awards this Friday in the auditorium of the A Rúa social center, a gala that brought together a wide representation of the local sports fabric to recognize the work, perseverance and results achieved during the 2024-2025 season.

The mayor, Manuel Vázquez Faraldo, highlighted during his speech that the winners are ‘much more than winners’, representing values ​​such as effort, self-improvement and the ability to inspire the community. Along the same lines, the Councilor for Sports, José Manuel Pantín, stressed that sport ‘not only gives victories’, but also essential values ​​for life, and reaffirmed the municipal commitment to continue supporting athletes and clubs.

Among the awards given, the prize for the men’s team went to AD Miño Senior A (football) for its good season in Preferente, while recognition for the women’s team went to CDN Miño de Kayak de Mar (canoeing) for its seventh place in the Galician League. The title of promising athlete went to Xoel Siso de Andrés (judo), fifth in the Spanish Cup.

In the individual section, the male athlete award went to Juan Vázquez Amado (triathlon) for his participation in the World Championship, and the female athlete award went to Estefanía Fernández González (canoeing), proclaimed world champion. The lifetime achievement distinction went to Óscar Carrera Amandi (canoeing) for his career in top-level competitions, including the Olympic and World Games.

The organization also recognized coach Antón Riveiro López (soccer) for the children’s league title, and highlighted the XIX Perbes Swimming Crossing as a sporting event, an event already consolidated with 19 editions. The club award went to the CDN Miño (canoeing), for its work promoting health and sporting values.

The gala also included several special mentions: for Iván Rodríguez Gómez (motorsports) for his participation in the Galician championship; for AD Miño for being the organizing venue of the Spanish Championship for regional under-14 and under-16 teams; for Women’s Golfer’s Day for the values ​​of equality, coexistence and sense of community; for Juan Ramón Anido Vidal (soccer) for 18 years as president; and for Sechu López (mountaineering) for being part of the Sea of ​​Ice 2025 expedition.

The event concluded with a joint photo of all the winners in a festive atmosphere, and the City Council reiterated its commitment to continue promoting sport in the municipality.
